DTF stands for Direct-to-Film. It's a printing method where your design is printed onto a special film with a powder adhesive backing. You then use a heat press to apply the transfer onto garments, bags, hats, and other fabrics. No weeding, no vinyl — just press and go.
DTF transfers work on cotton, polyester, cotton-poly blends, nylon, leather, denim, and most other fabrics. They also adhere to canvas bags, hats, and other textile accessories. The key requirement is that the material can withstand heat press temperatures (typically 300–325°F). DTF does not work well on waterproof or silicone-coated materials.
We accept PNG, PDF, AI, PSD, EPS, and SVG files. For best results, submit a PNG file with a transparent background at 300 DPI or higher at the actual print size. If your file isn't print-ready, consider adding our Artwork Cleanup or File Resize Help add-on and we'll get it dialed in for you.
No. Upload your artwork exactly as you want it to appear on the finished product. We handle all the pre-press preparation on our end, including mirroring for the DTF process.
Most standard orders are ready within 1–2 business days after payment is confirmed. Orders that include a Digital Proof add-on won't enter production until you approve the proof, so turnaround depends on how quickly you respond. Need it faster? Add Rush Production to jump the queue.
Standard Shipping is via USPS Ground Advantage, typically 3–7 business days after your order ships. Expedited Shipping is via FedEx 2Day for 2 business day delivery. Orders over $100 qualify for free standard shipping. Keep in mind that shipping times are carrier estimates and do not include production time.
A gang sheet is a single 12" x 30" sheet where you can fit multiple designs, names, numbers, or variations all on one print. You arrange your artwork however you want within the sheet dimensions, and we print the entire sheet as one piece. It's the most cost-effective option if you have several small designs or need a mix of graphics — you're paying for the sheet, not per design.
You provide the gang sheet layout. Arrange your designs within the 12" x 30" dimensions and upload the file as a single image or PDF. If you need help with layout or sizing, add our File Resize Help add-on and we'll assist. We also recommend a Digital Proof add-on so you can confirm the layout before we print.
Our transfers are printed on Printium Premium DTF Transfer Film — a double-matte, anti-static PET film with instant hot and cold peel performance. Use these settings as a starting point and adjust for your specific heat press and fabric.
Recommended Starting Settings (Cotton)
- Temperature: 300°F (range: 280–320°F)
- Pressure: Medium
- 1st Press: 10 seconds (range: 8–15 seconds)
- Peel: Instant hot or cold peel — hot peel works great for most designs, cold peel is recommended for graphics with intricate details or very thin lines
- 2nd Press: 5 seconds (range: 3–10 seconds) with a cover sheet (Teflon, parchment paper, silicone sheet, or skateboard tape) to blend the transfer into the fabric
Polyester & Blends
Lower temperature to approximately 290°F and shorten press time to 10–12 seconds — these fabrics absorb heat faster. Press multiple times if needed with cooling time in between.
Performance Fabrics
Lower temperature to 260–285°F and press for 8–10 seconds. Performance fabrics require extra care — do a test press to dial in your settings. Press multiple times if needed with cooling time in between.
Tips for Best Results
- Start with recommended settings and test before bulk runs — avoid jumping straight to top-range settings.
- Ensure FIRM and EVEN pressure across the transfer area.
- Avoid pressing over pockets, seams, buttons, or zippers. Use heat press pillows for garments with uneven surfaces.
- Results may vary by ink, powder, and garment combination.
Yes. Properly applied DTF transfers are durable and hold up well through washing. For best longevity, wash garments inside out on a cold or warm cycle and tumble dry on low or hang dry. Avoid bleach and high-heat drying directly on the print. With proper care, transfers should last the life of the garment.
No. DTF transfers are a one-time application. Once the adhesive bonds to the fabric during pressing, it cannot be removed or repositioned. Make sure your placement is correct before pressing. Measure twice, press once.
For $5, we'll send you a digital proof of your transfer for review before we print. You'll receive an email with a link to view and approve the proof or request changes — no login required. Your order won't go to production until you approve it. This is strongly recommended if you're ordering for the first time or if exact layout and sizing matter to your project.
You may cancel an order only if it has not yet entered production. Once production begins, no refunds or cancellations are available because every order is custom printed to your specifications. Add-on services (Rush Production, Artwork Cleanup, File Resize Help, Digital Proof) are non-refundable under all circumstances. If your order arrives damaged or defective, contact us within 7 days with photos and we'll make it right. See our Terms of Service for full details.
Yes. Most of our transfer products have tiered pricing — the more you order, the lower the per-unit cost. Volume pricing is displayed on each product page so you can see the price breaks before you add to cart. For large custom orders beyond what's listed, contact us and we'll work something out.
Store your transfers flat or loosely rolled in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid folding them — creases can affect the transfer quality. Keep them in the packaging they arrived in until you're ready to press. Stored properly, DTF transfers have a long shelf life (6+ months) with no loss in quality.
